Astringent lotions are boon for people owning oily skin and acne prone skins. These people can't afford to use cleansing milk or oils on their skin. Astringent controls skin oil thus it is one of the essentials for them. There is a lot of confusion between an astringent and toner among girls. Toner maintains the ph balance of skin and hydrates skin whereas an astringent is replacement of cleansing milk for oily skin.
Besides that there are 5 things that you need to know about Astringents:

- It clarifies the open pores and removes and controls excess dirt & oil in skin.
- You are always advised not to pop up the pimples and/or acne but if you do apply cotton soaked in astringent on that pimple and leave it for 5 mins. The pimple will be sealed forever and no mark will be left.
- Astringent can be used as exfoliator too. Clean face with astringent first and then follow with water rinse and/or gentle face wash.
- After extraction of black heads apply astringent to close the pores. If you take steam on regular basis, always apply astringent.
- It is also skin freshner.
This way you can keep your skin protected and clean.

I have a problem with my skin.It is generally very dry around the cheeks area but on the Tone quite oily.I have been suffering from acne for quite sometimes even on the dry parts, and those are not the normal type of acne that you get on oily skin,you know the big painful ones that come from deep within.I wanted to know if using astringent solutions are advisable for this.My pores have also gone haywire due to the sudden rise in temperature lately.

DeleteYour acne problem doesn't seem normal. I wanted to ask you "do you get scars"? The problem that you mentioned might be happening due hormonal imbalance. external treatment won't solve your issue. See a good dermatologist asap, dear.

You can use astringent to clean dirt,excess oil and tighten pores everyday but don't take steam everyday, that will be excess use. It will losen your skin and enlarge the pores unnecessarily. Rather have it weekly or fortnightly. Don't over exfoliate your skin.

DeleteThank u :) actually after removing blackheads once, if i use astrigent lotion wont i get back my blackheads ah(or after few a week or two will i need to steam for my blackheads, will i get my blackheads even if i use astrigent daily after blackheads removal o.O)?

See... blackheads can't be cured completely with any science in the world. You can try tightening the pores but it can't be cured completely. After steam & extraction of blackheads, I would highly recommend using astringent. So that it can close the pores which had opened and extended at the time of steam.
yeah, blackheads will reappear but after 10-15 days.

Neha,what is the difference between toner n astringent?I do ctm daily but after applying aromamagic's toner(oily skin)my face gets very oily n really don't need to moisture.So should I use astringent instead of toner after cleansing.skin type is combination n acne prone.Last 1 mth using AHA glow face wash.Xcellent result.
ReplyDeleteAstringent is skin cleanser also tightens pores. whereas toner is used after cleansing. Acne prone skin is sensitive and needs different treatment than normal. If aroma magic toner doesn't suit you stop using it and change the brand.

ReplyDeleteMy skin is oily and my skin is dull and my skintone is dark.
From past 2yrs im suffering from pimples.I have taken skin treatments thrice, while I was taking treatment my skin got pimple-free ad as soon as my treatment is completed again same problem occured. Right now I am not taking any treatment, started using cleansing milk, astrigent and some face pack.Please confirm whether the process I am following is correct or not,
1.During bed time, I wash my face with santoor soap.(As facewash doesn't suites me).
2.Then I apply Ayur Cleansing milk with cotton and leave it for 10mins and the clean with cotton.(Note: i am not washing my face after cleansing.
3.Now I apply facepack which is homemade (Masoor Dal powder, honey, turmeric, milk)
4.After 20mins I wash my face wth water.
5.In Morning, after bath I dab Astrigent with cotton on my face.
6.After Atrigent is dry, I apply Fair & Lovely cream and then Pond's powder.
Please correct and susggest above followed process.

DeleteInstead of Santoor soap use Cetaphil face cleanser. If applying fair & lovely and pond's powder is not resulting in breakouts then continue it. But if you still suffering from pimples then stop the use. Fair & lovely has harsh bleaching chemicals and pond's powder clogs the pores which results in pimples.

ReplyDeleteUse a facewash for sensitive skin coz your skin is acne prone Your face wash must contain salycyclic acid check the ingredients. Use a gel based moisturizer which contains salicyclic acid, glycolic acid or caffiene.

ReplyDeleteAm having a slightly oily skin which rarely becomes too oily & horribly acne prone. During such periods i generally continue using my Neutrogena cleanser & toner twice a week (i always use these) , along with Erytop clindamycin phosphate gel on the affected area every night... This has highly helped me too.. Recently came to know about astringents & am planing to use it.
My doubts are ,
1. Can i continue to use my toner along with astringent ?
2. If yes , Astringent can be used on the days on which am using the toners ?? or should i avoid using astringent on those 2 particular days of the week ?
3. Astringent should be used before or after face wash ?(am planing to use every night before sleep)
4. After astringent application skin should be moisturized ?
